The first class of Physician Assistants was educated at North
Carolina’s Duke University Medical Center in 1965. As the
profession has grown and evolved in the last four decades,
standards of competency in the clinical practice, education,
continuing education and assessment of PAs became apparent.
Four professional organizations of the Physician Assistant profession collaborated to create this standard
National Commission on Certification of
Physician Assistants (NCCPA) Accreditation Review Commission for
the Education of the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
Association of Physician Assistant Programs (APAP)
American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA)
